Cadillac Mountain

A footpath circumvents the area at the top

One of the most spectacular rocky headlands is the granite mass of Cadillac Mountain on Mount Desert Island.

You can drive to the summit parking lot from the park road. Then you can walk around the top on a foot trail or climb up and down the rocks. On a clear day you there are some spectacular views. However, it is always somewhat hazy because of the air pollution that follows the north easterly wind up the coast.

The mountain like the rest of the island was created from molten rock that solidified into solid granite. Later glaciers carved out the landscape that appears today.

Behind me is Bar Harbor

The view is spectacular
