The Carriage Roads

.

There are 67 miles of Carriage Roads in Acadia National Park Carriage Road System. You can actually go for a carriage ride or travel on horse back. Most people bike, hike or run on the roads.

We chose to bike the Jordan Pond and Bubble Pond trial which is 9 miles, circumventing the ponds. There are many photo opportunities along the route. The roads are surfaced with smooth packed crushed stone, lined with large granite stones and are in great condition.

The carriage road runs along the side of a mountain along a steep ledge over looking Jordan Pond.

We are now on the other side of Jordan Pond. If you look closely the carriage road we we riding on is about half way up on the side of this granite mountain.
