Mount Desert Island, Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor

We traveled to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park on Mount desert Island, Maine, in June. It was a lovely trip through Maine as the Lupines we at their peak. It gave meaning to the song from Carousel, "June is Bustin' Out all Over". We stayed at a hotel on Main Street in Bar Harbor. During the day we traveled from there around the Island by car or we biked. In the late afternoon and evening of course we ate a lobster dinner and walked around Bar harbor.
Bar Harbor is on the northeast side of Mount Desert Island on Frenchman Bay. Mount Desert Island is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean, Frenchman Bay (left) and Blue Hill Bay. It is the largest island off the coast of Maine. It is about equally divided by Somes Sound. The highest point is 1532 feet atop Cadillac Mountain, which is also the highest point on the east coast.

The interior of the island includes most of Acadia National Park, which contains many mountains of granite and fresh crystal clear fresh water lakes such as Jordan Pond.

There is a network of well-kept carriage roads for hiking, horseback riding and biking.

Granite cliffs characterize the coast.

Besides Bar Harbor the other main settlements are Northeast Harbor, Seal Harbor, and Southwest Harbor.

Mount Desert Island is limitless in it's scenic beauty.
