If you want a great Cross Country  Skiing experience visit the Lake Placid area. The views of the Cascades are breathtaking. The  Region has  the Jackrabbit Trail (60 KM) that starts in Saranac Lake and goes all the way to Keene passing through Lake Placid. The trail connects several Cross Country Centers including the Mt. Van Hoevenberg (Verizon Sports Complex - Olympic Trails) with over 30 miles of trails adjoined by the Cascade Ski Center. There are some nominal trail fees. There are plenty of lodging accommodations.
