| Trip to North Creek/Gore Mt. Area |
|
If you think Fall Foliage Trips through the Adirondacks are beautiful and scenic try taking a Winter Tour. The view is more enhanced because the leaves are off the trees. You can see background mountains, rivers and streams that you ordinarily can't observe in the spring, summer or fall. Snow is deficient in most of Central New York. January and now February weather hasn't been good for cross country skiing. The Foothills Region still has some snow left but only fair conditions. We decided to try the North Creek Region. We took a trip to Garnet Hill Cross Country Ski Trails near North River. Although some trails were closed there was an adequate base, some new snow and well groomed trails for enjoyable skiing. There are trails for all skills and motivation. We had a great day there and the views were fantastic. The trip is very scenic. The mountain views along Route 8 to 30 north passed Indian Lake then 28 along the Hudson River is beautiful and well worth the trip. It only takes 2.5 hours to get to Garnet Hill. Leave Garnet Hill and go down 28 to North Creek turn right on Peaceful Valley Road by Gore Mt. to 8 turn right and head back on Rout 8. You can also continue on 28 to 8 at Wevertown and come back. It is a very picturesque loop. |
